Ok, you want to start studying God’s Word but you do not know where to begin. Maybe the read and mark method is for you. Here are the steps:
Get your hands on a new bible, preferable the NIV, NKJV, or KJV.
Open the Bible to a manageable book such as Mathew, Philippians, Proverbs, or John.
Pray to the Lord to speak to you and enlighten you on the truths contained.
Read the first paragraph of the book you have chosen.
Look for something to underline, circle, or highlight.
Read the next paragraph and do the same.
Is there any truth to learn? A promise to claim? A prayer to echo? A command to obey?
If a verse confuses you, put a question mark next to it. If it thrills you, use an exclamation mark! If you find a verse to memorize, circle it and the spend some time working on it word by word. When you finish the book, go on to another. If you have a study Bible, use the notes to help you understand the text.
Don’t grow discouraged. The more you study the more you will learn; the more you learn, the more you will want to read – and mark.
“Then entrance to your word gives light” Psalm 119:30.
